Your first visit
New to bouldering? Here's what to expect.
What to expect
Bouldering is climbing without ropes on walls up to about 15 feet high, with thick padded mats below. You don't need a partner or equipment: just shoes (and chalk, if you want).
Sign the waiver
All climbers must sign the waiver (you can do this here ahead of time). Keep in mind that minors (under 18 years old) must have their waiver signed by their parent or legal guardian.
Check in at the front desk.
Grab your climbing shoes, and get a quick orientation from staff. All climbers undergo a mandatory facility orientation on their first visit, whether you're brand new, or if you've been sending for years.
Challenge the Orientation Expedition
If it's your first time climbing, try the Orientation Expedition, which is our entry-level circuit designed to get you moving and feeling comfortable on the wall. Try problems, take breaks, watch how others climb. There's no rush and no pressure.
Cool down and hang out
Grab a seat, stretch, grab a snack. Stick around as long as you'd like. They say that 90% of bouldering is watching other people boulder, anyway.
The Orientation Expedition
A set of numbered problems designed for people who have never climbed before. Follow them in order or pick whichever looks fun.
- Ask a staff member for your Expedition Guide - it'll have useful information, including a map of the problems, some tips and a glossary.
- Look for the specially-marked tags on the walls that tell you where to start.
- Feel free to challenge yourself at your own pace!
- Staff are happy to give tips if you get stuck
Try it for two weeks

Common questions
These come up a lot. For the full FAQ, head here.
Do I need any experience?
No. Most of our members started here with zero climbing experience. The Orientation Expedition and our staff are designed to get you going from scratch.
Do I need to bring a friend?
Bouldering is a solo activity, so no partner is needed. That being said, it can be fun climbing with a few friends, and most people end up meeting people here.
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothes you can move in. Athletic wear, stretchy jeans, shorts and a t-shirt are all fine. You will need climbing shoes, though (which you can rent).
How long does a session usually last?
Most people climb for 1 to 2 hours, but there's no time limit, so stay as long as you like.
Do I need to be fit?
Bouldering is about technique and problem-solving, not strength. People of all fitness levels climb here. You'll build strength as you go.
